The new Global Competitiveness Report

The World Economic Forum just published the new Global Competitiveness Report for 2007/2008. Germany's overall ranks on 5th place, nice. But if you dig deeper into the so-called pillars, the results look pretty different: In the pillar "Labor Market Efficiency" Germany has a rank of 47, thus competing with nations like Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Gambia. Duh, Lo and behold...

Well with those subindices “Health and Primary Education” ranked #40, “Higher Education” ranked #20, and “Technological Readiness” ranked #21, I’d venture the guess that Germany’s competitiveness runs on borrowed time anyways.

Cheers,

Fully agreed... ;)
The overall result does not seem to be the average of its pillars. I wonder which kind of quantifier/weighting they used for the overall results.
